Majid Al Futtaim, which operates shopping malls in the United Arab Emirates, has teamed with Network International, an enabler of digital commerce in the Middle East and Africa region, to deploy the PopPay face verification platform for payments in Carrefour food stores, according to a press release.
Customers at Carrefour stores in Deira and Amsaf are now able to purchase food, daily essentials and more using the face pay service, also known as PopPay, provided by consumer authentication service provider PopID. Consumers can enroll in the service through the Carrefour mobile app or website, then purchase products at Carrefour by smiling at a payment terminal instead of pulling out a phone or card. This solution is based on proprietary facial recognition technology developed by PopID, and provisioned through Network International's acceptance network for adoption across the UAE.
"We are thrilled to continue driving the evolution of biometric payments with the UAE's first-of-its-kind face verification platform," Andrew Key, group managing director of acquiring at Network International, said in the press release. "PopPay aims to make checkouts quick, convenient and seamless for a superior customer experience, and secure businesses from potential fraud with robust security protocols."
